The Writers Lab, the only programme devoted exclusively to script development for women and nonbinary screenwriters over 40, has partnered with Untamed Stories since 2021 to bring Lab intensives to the United Kingdom and participating European countries, including Austria, Belgium, Finland, Germany, Ireland, and Norway.

The Writers Lab is excited to create a far-reaching and culturally inclusive community of unique voices reflecting the diversity of the populations across the the UK and Europe. Intensives have been primarily virtual, but we held an in-person summit in 2024 and in 2025 in-person Intensive in London, with sessions focused on development and industry connections. 

We have been supported by brilliant partners Cate Blanchett’s Dirty Films, in association with Birds’ Eye View, Dancing Ledge Productions, Screen Scotland, Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland, Northern Ireland Screen, Birds’ Eye View and Ffilm Cymru Wales & BFI NETWORK with funding from the National Lottery. The Austrian Film Institute, ORF, FISAplus – Film Industry Support Austria and Drehbuchforum Wien (Screenwriters Forum Vienna).

Women in Film and TV Ireland have led the Irish expansion of the lab since its inception in 2021, resulting in 2 paid writing placement opportunities for Irish screenwriters with leading producers in the 2025 edition.
